Austin Oldies 103.5 In Memoriam
Austin's only oldies station is gone. It was one of those drive-by format changes. No notice. You just can't believe you've just been shot. So, now we've "Bob FM" which plays 70s, 80s, 90s, and today, though it seems to concentrate on the 80s. That all is fine with me as I like all that stuff, though when they tried a similar format with 107.7 The End a couple of years ago, it died a quick death after several months and in another drive-by format change, it was suddenly all-Spanish.
While the music is good for me, I do object that we don't have an oldies station anymore. There was a reason that 103.5 was already programmed into my car stereo.
And the talk is all little pre-recorded snippets, some localized for Austin (for example, mentioning Waterloo), but if you search online, you'll find that Bob FM is all over the country. It's one saving grace is that there's not a lot of talk or ads -- yet, that might just be to get people to start listening.
