Reminds me of the wonderful appreciation essay of your 8th grade science teacher that I believe you wrote for an application for college, or perhaps it was an English paper, which I would STILL like to share with him. Do you know where that is? or how to unearth it?

I looked for that essay about Mr. Thomas when I was much more likely to find it. I do not believe that that one will ever be found, though I'll keep my eye out for it.

I had thought of this wonderful essay that you wrote that I'd decided to mention to you via another comment here. SO, in preparing to do so, I reread your original message here and notice that it was a note from your band instructor whose response to your essay had deeply stirred your interest. WELL, I THINK that's the essay I was about to bring to your attention. It was about how you played the trumpet in the Marching Band...at the last minute...because it was needed. It was WONDERFUL! I remember just a few of the words...more of how it went...and much of its spirit.

Mom, that one you're remembering was one I used for my college application. We had about a hundred backup copies of the application, so that essay probably survives in some hardcopy form in some box of papers somewhere. Finding it might be a real trick though.
