Pop-up Fun
Who knew all the fun that I was missing? I'd never seen an infected Windows machine.
At work, I use a piece of software on my AIX workstation to log into a multi-user Microsoft Windows system somewhere (Windows NT based). The software gives me a Windows desktop in a window. I can only run programs that are already installed by the Administrators and I only use the web browser for a few broken internal company websites that require it.
Well, this morning, I started getting pop-ups galore! In all kinds of colors, with animations and blinkings! If you click the thumbnail, you can see a full-size snapshot of the screen (211K). It's almost a work of art actually.
A pre-recorded message on the internal help-desk phone system told me to go to a website to install patches, but, thankfully, I don't have the responsibility or authority to install patches on the multi-user Windows system. The Administrators of the Windows systems need to do it.
I use Unix and MacOS X systems almost all the time, so I'd never seen these pop-up infections (or any other kind of infection). What a nightmare. All y'all Windows users are welcome to them.
