Requiem for a Sofa
As Marvin K. Mooney was similarly encouraged, the time had come, the time was now, for my old sofa to go. I'd called the apartment complex office this past week and they said that it was fine to break it up into pieces that would fit in the dumpster. So, with an "I Love the 70s" marathon on VH1 on the television, I took screwdriver, pliers, box-cutter, and wrench to the decrepit furniture. It turns out the circular saw was not required.
The sofa was mediocre shape when I got it free from a friend at college. But is was comfortable and a drape of some yards of grey and navy blue cloth (hmm, the Blue and the Grey come up again) made it an excellent addition to my dorm room for my senior year in school. When I graduated, I found that my soul was held in escrow by a number of loan officers, so I dedicated my funds to other priorities and kept the old sofa.
Now, five more years have passed and my educational loans are paid off, and it is time to retire the sofa. Norwalk Furniture is already building my brilliant new sofa that I ordered last weekend. It'll still be a couple of weeks yet before it arrives.
