Smokin’ Saxons
The Saxon Pub has no smoking nights. I was able to patronize the establishment this past Saturday. In particular, a low-smoke venue was desired because of a friend who is pregnant. The Pub was better than I expected. The music was good and there was also a back area where my friends and I could hang out, talk, and play pool. No pub food, which was a downer, but sufficient grub could be had at very walkably close Dominos. I would go again and recommend that others consider it.
The non-smoking nights aren't exactly by choice. There's a city ordinance already on the books, but rarely enforced, that requires 25% of a venue's events to be non-smoking. The Saxon owners said they were worried there'd be low turnout. Well, it looked like a good crowd Saturday evening. The front room left just a few thin walkways and the backroom wasn't packed, but had a good size crowd (and one does like some room to swing a pool stick or to leave dart players a little space).
